IG Sindh's Directives for Law Enforcement and Traffic Management

G Sindh orders immediate reinstatement of Anti-Drug Task Force

Karachi: IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, while taking charge of his duties, chaired the first meeting and video-link conference at the Central Police Office, issuing directives.

In the meeting, all Additional IGs, DIGs, SSPs, and other senior officers responsible for provincial duties participated via video link.

The meeting discussed the current law and order situation in Sindh, including police security plans to combat crimes, organized crime, and other serious offenses, emphasizing on strengthening the investigative department with necessary directives.

IG Sindh ordered the immediate reinstatement of the Task Force against Gutka, Maawa, and drugs, stating that if intelligence reports provided by the Special Branch prove to be false, the individuals providing such reports (Intelligence Reports or IRs) would be immediately dismissed from service. Additionally, strict disciplinary action will be taken against SSPs and SHOs if they fail to report Gutka, Maawa, organized crimes, or drug dens in their areas.

He emphasized that there is no room for slackness in the police department; all SSPs must ensure their presence in their respective government offices from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, they should not only hold scheduled meetings but also address public complaints promptly.

He stated that the process of free registration of FIRs should be made meaningful and public-friendly. Otherwise, areas, including SHOs and others, will have to face departmental actions.

IG Sindh instructed the SSPs that no warning notices should be issued to SHOs for minor crimes. Instead, announcements for the appointments of Additional SHOs should also be issued similarly, aimed at determining the responsibility of area supervision in the absence of SHOs.

He said that women police officers should also be entrusted with important responsibilities at the departmental level to ensure effective prevention of crimes against women and children, allowing the apprehension of perpetrators.

Regarding the investigation department, IG Sindh said that experts, experienced, and trained officers in the investigation department would be promoted one step up. However, this will not be related to seniority; instead, the performance and qualifications of each investigation officer will be thoroughly evaluated.

Out of 171 traffic signals in the city, only 54 were reported to be functioning correctly. IG Sindh suggested comprehensive recommendations, including sending the approved proposal to the Sindh government, for the maintenance and repair of traffic signals, entrusting the responsibilities of the traffic engineering bureau to the traffic police department.

He said that these proactive measures would not only ensure the timely maintenance of traffic signals but also maintain traffic flow on roads and highways. He suggested installing cameras at traffic signals and appointing armed police officers to deter traffic law violations, including enforcement actions against crimes like overspeeding and dangerous driving, as well as making helmets mandatory for motorcyclists.

IG Sindh warned the traffic police that the presence of toll booths on roads, highways, and other places should be immediately stopped, and strict disciplinary action will be ensured against traffic police officers and youths found there, ensuring stringent enforcement actions.
