The Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has approved Rs. 2 billion for the construction of 708 broken police stations in the province. A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, was held regarding law and order, which was attended by DG Rangers, IG Sindh, Commissioner, and other officials. They said that the primary responsibility is the protection of the public and their properties, and for some time now, the law and order situation has been deteriorating. Chief Minister Sindh ordered the IG Police to completely stop the display of weapons, as nowadays people openly display weapons in the streets and form armed groups. He said that he is not satisfied with the current situation of street crime and wants special attention to be paid to the law in order to improve the situation. Murad Ali Shah said that when people go for business or employment, their families should not be worried, and if children go to school, parents should not be worried either. Chief Minister Sindh, while ordering the installation of flashlights on police patrolling vehicles other than motorcycles, said that no flashlights should be installed on patrolling and unauthorized vehicles other than police and authorized vehicles. He said that dacoits in Sukkur and Larkana areas should be eliminated at all costs, and cooperation should be sought from the governments of Punjab and Balochistan to take action against dacoits. The police, Rangers, and other agencies will work together to rid Sindh of drugs. IG Sindh, Raffat Mukhtar, said that there are 48,000 police personnel in Karachi, out of which 12,000 police officers are stationed at police stations. Chief Minister Sindh said that the strength of police stations should be increased to control street crime. By increasing the strength of police stations from 12,000 to 24,000 personnel, street crime will be eliminated and public trust will be restored. IG Sindh said that in January and February 2024, 23 people were killed in encounters with dacoits, 3,953 mobile phones were snatched in two months, 46 cars were stolen, and 1,537 motorcycles were stolen. Murad Ali Shah said that additional police personnel should be appointed at hotspots of street crime, and zero tolerance will be adopted for street crime. During the meeting, IG Sindh informed that Shuhada Force has been reinstated on 386 motorcycles, and 679 encounters have been conducted against street criminals, in which 94 criminals were killed and 718 were injured. 2,858 suspects were arrested by the police in encounters. Chief Minister Sindh, while directing to improve prosecution in street crime cases, said that prosecution of narcotics cases should be strengthened so that culprits do not escape punishment. He said that kidnapping is unacceptable, hostages should be recovered, and people from other provinces who are kidnapped through honeytraps in rural areas should be rescued. IG Sindh said that police have saved 250 people from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from being kidnapped through honey traps. Major General Ijaz Waseem briefed Chief Minister Sindh, saying that Rangers and police are conducting operations against terrorists and drug dealers. Chief Minister Sindh said that police and Rangers should work together to rid the streets of criminals, and police and Rangers should also end street crime. A meeting of police and Rangers will soon be convened in rural areas. According to the spokesman for the Chief Minister, 108 police stations in Karachi city will also be constructed under this fund. Police station construction should be transparently spent so that all police stations look good and better.
