Overhauling the Police System in Sindh: Chief Minister's Initiative and Potential Appointments


 Chief Minister Sindh has initiated consultations in the province, including Karachi, for peace and security. The situation in the rural areas is dire, and Karachi has deteriorated further. The performance of officers appointed for maintaining peace and security in Interior Sindh, including the Karachi Police Chief, is deemed inadequate. In order to overhaul the police system in Sindh, preparations have been started by the Chief Minister. Serious consideration is being given by the provincial government to appoint Ghulam Nabi Memon as the Inspector General of Police. Other candidates from Islamabad for the IG position have also been identified. According to reliable sources, on Friday, Murad Ali Shah, along with nine newly elected members of the government, convened a meeting in Karachi, declaring the current state of peace and security in Karachi as worse than ever. Concerns have also been expressed about the situation in rural areas across the province. The current situation of peace and security, especially in Karachi and rural areas, is deemed unsatisfactory, thus making the transformation of the police system extremely necessary. According to sources within the Chief Minister's House, the Chief Minister-elect of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, has sent a summary to the Prime Minister to appoint former Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon as the IG for the province. However, no signal has been received from other major law-enforcement agencies for approval yet. Despite this situation, Ghulam Nabi Memon is considered a strong contender for the IG position in Sindh. Meanwhile, recommendations have been made to appoint Munir Sheikh as Karachi Police Chief. However, Javed Alam Odho and Farhat Junijo are also among the contenders. Khadim Hussain Rind is trying to retain his position, but no signal has been received from the Chief Minister's House. It has been finalized that Asad Raza is actively pursuing his chair. Irfan Baloch, Maqsood Hyder, Abdul Salam Sheikh, and Peer Muhammad Shah, among other Grade 20 officers, are also in the running for appointments as SSPs. Sameer Noor Channa, Irfan Ali Samoon, and others are in constant contact to take on responsibilities in interior Sindh. It is reported that there is a shortage of space for appointments in the province, especially for DIG West Asim Qaimkhani and DIG East Azfar Mahesar. Ahmed Nawaz Cheema's name has been finalized for DIG Traffic. Zabir Nazir Sheikh, Faisal Bashir Memon, Irfan Bahadur Hasan Sardar Niazi, Tariq Elahi Mastoi, and others are also included in the list of candidates for appointments as SSPs. Sameer Noor Channa, Irfan Ali Samoon, and others are in constant contact to take on responsibilities in interior Sindh. It is reported that officers will be chosen for Karachi before appointments are made in other districts, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, and other districts, including Larkana and Khairpur. Ghulam Nabi Memon's name has been finalized by the unelected provincial government. If approved by the Prime Minister for IG Sindh, Munir Ahmed Sheikh will be appointed as Karachi Police Chief. Asad Raza will succeed in taking more time for DIG South. Maqsood Hyder, Irfan Baloch, and Peer Muhammad Shah can also be given significant positions in Karachi.
