"IG Sindh Initiates Stringent Measures for Law Enforcement and Accountability"

IG Sindh orders immediate reinstatement of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force

Karachi: IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, while assuming charge of his duties, chaired the first meeting and video link conference at the Central Police Office and issued directives.

In the meeting, all Additional IGs, DIGs, SSPs, and other senior officers responsible for provincial duties participated via video link.

The meeting discussed the current law and order situation in Sindh, including police security plans, anti-crime operations, organized crime, and other serious crimes, and provided necessary instructions to strengthen the department of investigation, including practical police measures and standard operating procedures.

IG Sindh ordered the immediate reinstatement of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force against Gutka, Maawa, and drugs, stating that if intelligence reports provided by the Special Branch against such crimes proved false, the intelligence report providers (Intelligence Officers) would be immediately dismissed from their jobs, while strict disciplinary action would be taken against SSPs and SHOs if Gutka, Maawa, organized crime, and drug dens are active in their areas but not reported.

He said there is no room for corrupt elements in the police department; all SSPs will ensure their presence in their respective offices from 10 am to 2 pm, during which not only scheduled meetings with the public but also timely resolution of their complaints will be ensured.

He stated that the process of free registration of FIRs should be made meaningful and public-friendly; otherwise, the concerned SSPs and SHOs will have to face strict disciplinary action.

IG Sindh directed that women police officers be entrusted with important responsibilities at the departmental level so that especially women and children could be protected from crimes, and lawbreakers could be brought to justice.

Regarding the investigation department, IG Sindh said that promotions would be given to competent and experienced officers of the investigation department, but it would not be related to seniority. The progress of every investigation officer will not only be checked but their appointments, qualifications, and performance will also be evaluated.

Out of the 171 traffic signals in the city, only 54 are reported to be functioning correctly. IG Sindh said comprehensive recommendations, including the proposed approval, should be sent to the Sindh government so that the responsibilities of maintenance and rehabilitation of traffic signals could be entrusted to the Traffic Engineering Bureau of the Traffic Police Department on a regular basis.

He said that with these proactive measures, timely maintenance of traffic signals along with the smooth flow of traffic on roads and highways would be ensured. Installation of cameras and appointment of armed police officers at traffic signals will be carried out to ensure strict enforcement of traffic laws and prevention of crimes like overspeeding and dangerous driving. IG Sindh warned the traffic police that toll booths on roads, highways, and other places should be immediately abolished, otherwise strict disciplinary action will be taken against the traffic police officers and youths present there.
